Sending artwork

Artwork accepted via our FTP online facility or email (40mb limit on file sizes), on CD, DVD, Pen Drive, USB Stick. We do not accept ISDN. When sending your artwork to Ashley House Printing Company, there are a few steps which will ensure that we are able to process your artwork as quickly as possible:

Before saving your file, please remember to:

Hard copy (useful but not essential)

Print off a copy of the file to be enclosed with your artwork. This will give the pre-press department a good idea of how you expect the job to look, even if it is sent after the digital files.

Sufficient bleed

Ensure that coloured areas are at least 3 millimeters over the edge of the page.

Document size

Check that the page size in the 'Page Setup' dialogue box matches your document size and artwork is centered to sheet for output.

Scanned pictures or graphics

Scanned pictures or graphics must be at the appropriate resolution for output. They are usually best when they are at least 300dpi at actual size. Lineart items to be 600dpi at actual size.

Glue flaps

If possible ensure that the image areas designated for glue flaps are free from ink/varnish. To maximise glue strength these areas should not be printed on. Standard width is 12mm.

The following information should be clearly labelled on your artwork:

File name

Please state the saved file name of the jobs to be output.

Fonts

We hold copies of most fonts available, but to ensure correct output we require your printer fonts to be supplied with the artwork. Please ensure that all fonts that are used are supplied. In PDF ensure they are embedded. Avoid stylizing fonts (Bold, italic etc) where ever possible in layout applications.

Type of computer

Please specify the type of computer used to produce your job eg. Mac or PC.

Software used

Please state the software used to generate the job and related files
eg. QuarkXpress Version 7, InDesign CS etc.
If you can send us a PDF we are able to flow this easily through our CTP System. We can supply a set of Distiller options to prepare a PDF to the best specification for CTP system - please do not hesitate to call our Repro department to discuss.

Proofs

Do you want proofs, if so, what type? Lo-res proof – best for stationery or text pages.
Hi-res proof – for full colour work. Machine proof – also known as 'Wet Proof' produced on the printing press – used when colour is critical. PDF - an on screen reproduction only - requires Adobe Acroabat to view.

Hi res contract digital proofs available via press (B2), with low res composite proofs also available (B2). All macs in the studio are on OSX with latest versions of all major applications. Scanning also available (max original size A4).

Virus checks

Have the files been checked for viruses? If yes, please state the software used and the version.

SAVE YOUR FILE!

Then please remember to...

Make back up copies of the file(s) so that you have a master copy should you need it. Keep a layered version (i.e PSD, Ai) if late amends need to be made in the workflow.

Labels or 'read me' files

Clearly mark your digital artwork with file name and the name of your company and the person who created it, or any comments relating to the job either as written instructions or 'read me' files.

Transparencies/artwork

Ensure all necessary transparencies/artwork are delivered with clear instructions.

Folding guide

If your item is to be folded please supply a dummy showing how the job should fold.

If you are an existing customer you may also be able to upload to our ftp site. Click here for more information.
